The National Hockey League's Stanley Cup finals are currently ongoing, which means the NHL Entry Draft is not too far away. Who will go number one overall?

The National Hockey League Entry Draft is scheduled for June 26th and 27th at the Bell Centre in Montreal, Quebec.

Here is a look at what could be, the first five players picked in this year's draft.

New York Islanders Take Tavares

1. New York Islanders - John Tavares - Centre - London Knights - Ontario Hockey League

The Islanders decide on Tavares despite rampant trade rumours coming from various teams looking to trade up in order to select him.

Tavares will not only bring skill and ability to a team that is starving for talent, he will also become the face of the franchise and a marketing dream for a team that has floundered for years.

Lightning Take Next Best Option In Victor Hedman

2. Tampa Bay Lightning - Victor Hedman - Defenceman - Modo - Swedish Elite League

With Tavares off the board, the Lightning take the next in defenceman Victor Hedman. The smooth skating defenceman will be a welcome addition to a team and could very well pair with Andrej Meszaros next season, whom the Lightning acquired via trade with the Ottawa Senators a year ago. Meszaros and his solid defensive play along with Hedman's offensive flair at the back end could become a solid pairing for years to come.

3. Colorado Avalanche - Matt Duchene - Centre - Brampton Batallion - Ontario Hockey League

The Avalanche, who are currently going through massive changes to their front office which includes the hiring of new general manager in Greg Sherman, decide on Matt Duchene, one of the best skaters in this year's draft.

Duchene sky rocketed draft charts this year due to his incredible play this season. His great shot and quick release make him a high-level sniper prospect.

4. Atlanta Thrashers - Brayden Schenn - Centre - Brandon Wheat Kings - Western Hockey League

General manager Don Waddell decides on Schenn, brother of Luke (defenceman for the Toronto Maple Leafs) with the fourth pick.

Schenn could very well be the most complete player to come out of this draft in five years time. Schenn has immense talent, but at times, displays a lackluster work ethic.

Schenn will most likely be back with Brandon next season due to the Wheat Kings hosting the Memorial Cup. Schenn will be a key player for the Wheat Kings next season and will be logging a lot of minutes, playing in all situations.

5. Los Angeles Kings - Evander Kane - Centre - Vancouver Giants - Western Hockey League

The Kings have numerous pieces in place and are well on their way to becoming one of the better clubs in the league for a long time. This talented young team only adds to their plethora of gifted players with the addition of Evander Kane.

Kane was the leading scorer in the Western Hockey League this season. Kane is a playmaker with elite level vision and stickhandling ability. He will most likely return to the Giants next season.
